I, a research scientist, a palaeontologist by profession, have been stashing away full sheets of commemorative stamps and other philatelic items for over 45 years -- Evelio , who was an accomplished artist and sculptor, did, also -- for no other reason except that we liked the designs -- they depict subjects that we were interested in -- fossils, animals, plants, history, famous people, science, technology, sports and art -- stamp collecting is a easy way for kids from 8 to 68 to learn about geography, as well as the subjects depicted on the postage stamps -- they are also one of the top 3 investment choices by knowledgeable collectors / investors, requiring a lot less room to store than art works, are not as heavy as GOLD / silver coins, are way easier to transport than physical real estate property, and easier to care for! As with these other investments, their value has increased over the years, and they are just plain fun to collect!
